The HomeAgain Microchip Identification System consists of a small (3 by 13 mm) sterile microchip encoded with a unique identification number. The microchip provides lifelong permanent indentification of your pet and can aid in the recovery of your pet if it is ever lost or stolen and recovered. The green arrow points to a sample microchip. The red arrow points to the handheld scanner used to read the microchips. The blue arrow indicates the sterile single-use syringe which contains the microchip.
The microchip is implanted under the skin between the pet's shoulder blades. Connective tissue under the skin quickly attaches to the microchip and keeps it from migrating to other areas of the body.
Following implantation the microchip can be read through the skin using the handheld scanner. These scanners are available at most veterinary clinics, animal shelters, humane societies, and animal control facilities.
